🗳 Winning in Sutton — and What’s Next

Report from Sam, Chair of London YLs

We recently held two fantastic action days in Sutton Central, where local members joined forces with activists from across London. A special shoutout to Elin from Lambeth for her support on day one, and to all the Sutton members who turned out on day two. The result? A resounding by-election victory—and a historic one, as we elected the first Hongkonger to Sutton Council.

But the campaign trail doesn’t stop there. We’re now preparing for a second by-election in Carshalton South & Clockhouse, a much tighter contest in a split ward currently held by two Conservative councillors. Sam will be coordinating with Joel to organise action days—so watch this space if you’d like to get involved!

On polling day, Joel also stepped up to lend a hand, and we're grateful for his continued support.

Meanwhile, thanks go to the KCL Lib Dems, who were out in Southwark recently helping to deliver surveys—vital groundwork for our wider campaigning effort.

📞 Building Engagement and Growing Branches

Sam also shared updates on the membership front—he’s now got a Connect phonebank system (courtesy of Craig) to help contact members more efficiently. Big thanks to Johan for all his consistent work on membership engagement too!

And when it comes to socials and societies, there’s been plenty to celebrate:

• The KCL Lib Dems' 10 Year Anniversary Party brought together members old and new.

• Ealing YLs hosted their first ever social, a relaxed and well-attended board game night—hats off to Will for making it happen.

• There was even a pre–Pizza and Politics meet-up for a potential South London YLs branch. While Sam wasn’t able to attend due to illness, we’re hopeful this branch will take off in the months ahead.

Work continues to expand our reach, including efforts to bring Royal Holloway into the fold with an exec rep.
